ENG331 - Creative Writing

This Course introduces the student to the basic and fundamental skills of creative writing. The broad aim of the Course is to equip the student with the soft skills of creativity, through engagement with theoretical and practical processes in writing creatively. It aims to generally disabuse the mind of the student from believing that creative writing in inborn and not learned or taught. While it is noted in this Course that inspiration is crucial to creativity, it also emphasizes the hard work that goes into producing a good poem, short story/novel, or play.

At the end of the Course, the student should be able to

i. distinguish the three genres of creative and imaginative writing;

ii. know the varieties of ways by which literary elements are used to craft a good creative work;

iii. write his or her own story, poem, and play;

iv.  express a coherent criticism of other creative works.
